Manners, Please

If you’re on the internet, and you don’t know who Olivia Campbell is, I’m already questioning what you’re doing with your life (you probably spend less time online than me, hah). Olivia ‘Curvy’ Campbell is a plus-size model signed to Bridge Models. She has gravity-defying hair, and a bangin’ bod. I have a mild girl crush. So obviously when she announced that she was launching a collection of clothing with MannersLDN, I literally threw all my money at them.

I’ll be honest, I didnt know a lot about Manners beyond that they sell a lot of body-con and their pictures are full of people who are trendier than me. The first thing you should know is that this stuff is not cheap. I bought the Louise reversible wrap top which was thirty-two pounds, and the Louka leggings which set me back fifty-five pounds! The cost was one of the reasons it took me so long to make my order. If it hadn’t been 1am – nothing good ever happens after midnight – I potentially may not have placed an order because I am much less impulsive in the light of day.

The collection launched at midnight on 1st July 2017, and I was ready for it. It consisted of a number of items, like tops and skirts, as well as a gorgeous jumpsuit, all available in various deeply pigmented colours. I umm-ed and ahh-ed about which items and colours to purchase and ended up playing it very safe and ordering a black co-ord set. All items in the collection were only available for pre-order at this point, so I had a minimum of 20 days to await my purchases. Personally, I don’t have an issue with waiting for the odd parcel, it builds a bit of anticipation!

True to their word, my purchases arrived on July 21st with a 10% voucher for my next order (yay!) and just in time for me to wear it for my birthday dinner with my friends!
I typically wear leggings and tops in a sixteen, occasionally an eighteen, so I ordered both pieces in an XL (16-18). Both items fit, however my bosom probably wouldn’t have been opposed to sizing up! It gives quite a cleavage though, and if you’re wondering that’s a Curvy Kate Princess bra, and you should go up a cup in this style (that’s a whole other post though so I’ll hush).

That wrap neckline is quite revealing, but thankfully the top is reversible and the back panel is a clean round-neck which in turns gives this sexy plunge-y back!

The Louka leggings, I have to admit, are great. Potentially not fifty-five pounds worth of great, but I have no regrets purchasing these – I love that little gold zip detail on the hip, although it does occasionally like to spontaneously undo itself (maybe a size up wouldn’t have been a bad thing here, either).

Another thing you need to know about Manners, is that their products are completely handmade in the U.K. I don’t own a lot of handmade stuff so this was pretty exciting! Remember though, this usually equates to ‘handwash only’ so be prepared to look after your items. I am lazy and a bit of a risk taker, so I washed my products the same way I wash my bras – I stuck them in a lingerie bag on a cold, delicate wash, and they survived! Hooray!

In the end, I’m glad I tried this brand. I love supporting smaller companies, and I LOVE supporting plus-size women in the fashion industry. You’ll always spend a little more on handmade – British handmade, too! – but you really do get what you pay for, and I’m looking forward to supporting future collections, both for Curvy Campbell, and fellow models and bloggers carving out a new normal in this industry.

Unfortunately Manners by Curvy Campbell is no longer available for sale. You can still shop at Manners Ldn, who supply XS-XL handmade jersey products.
